ECR Triples at Towers, Sunday 16th July

Report by Colin R.

The regions triples competition took place at Towers PC, South Weald, in cloudy but dry and warm weather.

Sadly it only attracted a small number of entries, however those who took part enjoyed a rather pleasant and relaxed tournament.
The competition was based upon playing a simple league of matches which resulted in establishing the two eventual positions.

The top position was achieved by the Gardens of Hanbury team of Sean Daisley, Jean and Andy Wilmot who won all their matches with plus 20. Coming back from 10-4 down against the Presidents team ensured they finished in top spot.

While in second position were the Presidents team of Colin Roper, Clare Courtney and Naheb Khodabux who had equal wins and losses, but with a plus of 15. Their best performance was the 13-3 win over 3rd place Onley.

The Onley team of Nikki and Trevor Blows and Dave Bird, who had the same wins and losses, but with plus 2, just missed out on 2nd place.

The latter positions were teams and players from Thorley and Rayne Swan and Hanbury.

Thanks to those who took part and for Towers for hosting the event.

The first and second teams will represent the region at the Champions of Champions national tournament in October at Oxshot in Surrey.

For those who were unable play in this event, the next opportunity is that of the Festival of Petanque weekend being held at The Gardens of Hanbury on 29th and 30th July.

ENTRIES ARE NOW INVITED to participate in the open doubles event on Saturday and the national rankings triples on Sunday.
