ECR Singles & Shooting Competition at Towers PC, Sunday 11th June

Report by tournament organiser Andy Wilmot

A beautiful morning greeted us as we arrived at Towers PC, hosting the competition once again this year.

We had 12 players participating this year, but the group covered all levels of age and experience.
We split the players into two groups, with each group playing three rounds to determine the knockout stages.

This produced some interesting results and outcomes as Paul McNeil and Dawn Allan topped their respective groups with 3 wins.
Peter Way and Paul Daisley joining them in the Gold semi finals edging out Jean Wilmot and Sean Daisley on points difference.

During lunch, the shooting competition got under way, with Dawn posting the best score of 18 in the early rounds, however Naheb Khodabux, being the last competitor to take part, pipped her at the post, setting a winning score of 21.

On to the afternoon and in the gold semi finals the two Pauls faced each other with Paul Daisley coming out on top winning 13-8.
In the other semi Peter Way beat Dawn 13-8 to set up a Towers/Hanbury final.

In the silver semi finals, Towers newcomer, Mark Jones, playing in his first ever singles competition held off Jean to win 13-6, and Sean Daisley beat Clare Courtney 13-9.

In the bronze semi finals, two of the pre-tournament favourites (both nursing illness and injury in their defence), Francois Bourquin and Naheb beat Dee and Brenda to make a third Hanbury/Towers final.
Francois had to then concede the final as his shoulder was too painful to continue.

In the silver competition, Mark battled hard in his first ever final against Sean, but eventually lost out 3-13.

Chatting afterwards, Mark seemed to have learnt quite a bit, especially playing singles, which a lot of players are reluctant to play.

In the gold competition, Paul D stormed out into an 8-0 lead before Peter started to peg him back, however the initial lead proved too large to overcome as Paul ran out to win the final 13-8 to become our 2017 Singles Champion.

So congrats to Paul, Sean and Naheb on their respective wins, and thanks to Towers for hosting a great day!
