ECR Doubles at Hanbury PC, Sunday 12th June
The ECR Doubles/Over 50's took place at The Gardens of Hanbury
and the first three games were played using the Swiss system followed by straight KO.
Top of the pile were first time partners Francois Bourquin and Ian Hall who were relatively untroubled in the early rounds with scores of 13-7, 13-6 & 13-6.
Another new pairing was Aris Savvides and Keith Brandon, who did well to reach the main competition but unfortunately met the in form Hall & Bourquin and were knocked out.
Dave Tarling & Paul Daisley had a very good morning session, winning all their games to finish in 2nd place. Unfortunately they also went out in the first KO game, losing to Chris Parr & Bernie Wade.
The semi finals of the main saw Bourquin & Hall defeat Trevor Blows & Dave Bird 13-7, while Colin Roper & Naheb Khodabux won against Parr & Wade, also 13-7.
In a hard fought final, with the game closer than the score suggests, Bourquin & Hall defeated Roper & Khodabux 13-7. The accurate pointing of Bourquin backed up with consistently good shooting by Hall saw the pair become Doubles Champions 2016.
In the Plate semi-finals Peter & Russell Nairne defeated Ken Kilbey & Doreen Butcher 13-6, while Clare Courtney & Mike Brown came back from 12-2 down against Ian Barnes & Dave Pearse to take the final place.
In the final Courtney & Brown were leading 7-4 when a disastrous end gave their opposition 6 to lead 10-7. Although they recovered to 10all, the father & son pairing of Peter & Russell Nairne took 3 at the next end to take the Title.
The Over 50's champions are Chris Parr & Bernie Wade who finished above Trevor Blows & Dave Bird on points difference, with both being losing semi-finalists in the Main.
A great days play at a great venue and the sun came out in the afternoon. Thanks to all who entered and to all who helped run & organise the day.
Special mention to Chris Wilmot & the Daisley girls for running the raffle and Andy Wilmot for running the competition.
