This competition is one of the oldest singles competitions in England having been first played in the late 1970's and with many of the previous winners going on to represent Great Britain.

The four players who had won through during the year were John Perfect (Chequers) and Ian Barnes, Chris Parr & Simon Bird (Feering Bell).

In the first semi final Chris was drawn against Ian with Ian coming out the winner 13-5, 13-6.

The second semi final turned out to be a closer match with with Simon beating John 13-8, 9-13, 13-6.

The final turned out to be a classic with both players taking on a very attacking mode of play with any small mistake being punished by their opponent.
