Joe Doble Memorial Doubles – 23rd October 2016

Report by Simon Doble

This year’s Joe Doble memorial was well supported again, with 20 teams taking part. There was obviously a good Eastern Region representation but also great support from the London, Sussex and Anglia regions, including juniors and national/international players.

The format of the day was Leagues in the morning, then Main, Plate and Consolage in the afternoon.

Two Eastern teams progressed through to the Main competition; Dawn Bourquin & Jean Wilmot and Pauline & Eric Taylor, both of which failed to make it past the quarter-finals.

The main competition was fought out amongst the two pre-tournament favourites of Jack Blows & Ross Jones v Rob de Haan & Phil Claydon. Blows & Jones coming through a hard fought final 13-8, to win the competition and take the £160 1st prize.

The plate competition consisted of 5 Eastern teams, 2 from Sussex and 1 from London. The final was fought out between the London team of Derek Northend & Vince Wills and Sean Daisley & Morgan Pry, the two youngsters eventually being victorious and taking the £80 prize.

The consolage competition consisted of 4 teams. The eventual winners were Nigel Hills & Josh Wilson from ECR/Anglia.
